Parks

Within the boundaries of York Township lies the Lester Rail Trail. An abandoned CSX Transportation railroad bed was acquired by the Medina County Park District in 1991 and the rail trail was opened in 1997. Stretching 3-1/2 miles from Abbeyville Road to Lester Road the compacted hard surface trail leads one through wetland areas and beautiful hardwood forests.

The Northeastern Ohio Live Steamers www.livesteamohio.homestead.com signed an agreement with the park district in 2000 to use about nine acres located along the Lester Rail Trail. Located on Lester Road, just north of State Route 18, they have constructed and operate a miniature railroad consisting of over 4,200 feet of ground track. Plans are in the works for 1,000 feet of elevated track and additional ground track which will double the mainline. The railroad equipment includes ¾”, 1”, and 1-1/2” scale running on 3-1/2”, 4-3/4”, and 7-1/2” gauge track respectively.

Public runs are offered throughout the summer and fall months. Run dates will be finalized by mid-January. Call the Medina County Park District at 330-722-9364 next year. Or visit their website at: www.medinacountyparks.com
